Toma-Totally

It’s summer!! We are celebrating the heat, the sunshine and whatever else,  for another week before we turn the AC to 68 degrees  and snuggle under a blanket watching Netflix until October.

But, til ten it’s summer!! Grill is out, your tan is building and the garden is blooming! Possibly with weeds, but some are edible, so, there you go.

So what to plant (easily) in that garden(dirt) to make summer pop(delicious)?

Here’s the lowdown. Best weeds for your needs.

Mint!

If you Google it, you’ll see “easiest” and “ hardiest” as the common descriptors.

In my eyes, if it’s easy, useful, and sturdy, it goes in the garden.

And have you ever sipped an iced tea with fresh mint?

Hellooo!! Perfection.

Cucumber!

They love a little space and a trellis, or something to help them reach for the cucumber sky, and if given these things they’ll produce cukes, gherkins…

If you’re in a pickle, they’ll give you whatever your summer salad or sandwich is asking for.

Tomatoes!

C’mon…tomatoes from the garden = summer!

Salads, sauces, dips…they work for every meal, are planted easily, and give you a hundred (thousand) more than you expected.

Downside?

None. Plant those puppies.

Rhubarb!

Let’s start with rhubarb being one of the LEAST demanding of all crops.

Can you say that about your friends?

It’s delicious, makes a pie to swoon over, and is easy as, well, pie…to grow!

What’s the downside? Toss in some berries and you're the hit of the (block) party.

Okay, there’s a starter. But believe in your abilities, I literally gave you the plants that practically grow themselves. Just water sometimes and don’t eat the rhubarb leaves.

Seriously, they're, like, toxic. But only the leaves!

Now enjoy the fruits(!) of your labor!
