This winter has been an exceptionally dreary one, so what better escape on a Saturday afternoon than a good film, hot popcorn, and perfectly crafted cocktails?
You guys all know I love highlighting some of the very best spaces in our community and this time I decided to bring friends both new and old along with me as I made my inaugural trip to The Nightlight Cinema in Downtown Akron.
Tucked away on High Street, this arthouse cinema provides an amazing experience for film lovers beyond a standard trip to the movies.
They are a nonprofit theatre showing indie films, documentaries, new releases, old favorites, and more. Recent showings include Priscilla, Saltburn, Gremlins, The Boy and the Heron, Die Hard, & Anatomy of a Fall (just to name a few).
Serving up a little something for everyone, we went to see American Fiction, a new release that takes a hilarious (and somehow still poignant) look at cultural stereotypes and family complexities.
I definitely wouldn't describe this space as stereotypical. It has such a cool, old-school feel as you walk in and they pay attention to the details.
You know I'm all about the details.
From the perfectly curated entryway photo op to the film poster frames and movie-themed cocktails, they know what they're doing and they are doing it RIGHT.
Sugary treats in resealable bags, hot, fresh popcorn with a variety of topping options, and a full bar sit just outside of the theatre entrance.
Craft cocktails are 10/10 and served in beautiful glassware, that somehow fits perfectly into the armrest cupholders.
Not feeling boozy?
I loved the variety of sparkling water and mini cups of Jeni's ice cream, too. It's the movie snack options of your dreams, and then probably a couple more, lol.
The theatre holds about 45 patrons, creating a truly intimate experience. Jenn Kidd serves as the Executive Director and she and her crew have big plans for this place - including community events and adding a second screen.
Everyone in attendance raved about the film and the whole experience. Connecting with my diverse group of friends and clients in a local spot that celebrates diversity in film and our community?
It was a match made in heaven.
If you haven't checked out this local gem, go! Follow along on socials or check their website at nightlightcinema.com for films, showtimes, and membership information.
I can't wait to go back, so if see me there with popcorn in hand, make sure to say hi!
